Explorer Scout Young Leaders (ESYLs) are Explorers who volunteer alongside adult leaders in a Squirrel Drey, Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. They're a valuable asset to any leadership team and play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.

All Young Leaders in the Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout section who are between the ages of 13.5 and 18 must be members of a Young Leaders Unit. Young people from outside Scouting can also participate if they're working towards their Duke of Edinburgh's Award or Queen's Guide Award.

Beverley and Hornsea Young Leader Process

If you are a young person interested in being a Young Leader or a volunteer looking for Young Leaders in your section, please contact the Young Leader Team on youngleaders@bandhscouts.org.uk

The team will guide and support you through the process, which is detailed below to help you out!

Step 1: Potential Young Leader opportunity. Either identified by volunteer or young person. 

Step 2: Contact made with Young Leader Team on youngleaders@bandhscouts.org.uk giving details of the potential new Young Leader (Name, preferred section and group)

Step 3: Following initial conversation with Young Leader Team, further details of the new Young Leader are to be shared. If on OSM they are to be shared to the Beverley and Hornsea: Young Leaders OSM. If not on OSM the Young Leader Team will advise what details are needed. 

Step 4: Allocation of the new Young Leader to a section will be decided by the Young Leader Team working with the Group Lead Volunteer and Section Volunteers. 

Step 5: The Young Leader Team will arrange a conversation with the parents/ guardians and Young Leader. 

Step 6: The Young Leader Team will introduce the new Young Leader to the section and section team. 

Ongoing: Once the new Young Leader has started the Young Leader Team will support the young leader through their journey as well as answer any questions they might have.
