Beverley & Hornsea District Scouts is proud to announce the appointment of John Holtby as its new District President, helping to champion Scouting and the opportunities it provides to young people across Beverley, Hornsea and the surrounding communities.
John joins the District at an exciting time for local Scouting, with around 450 young people supported by approximately 200 adult volunteers across eight Scout Groups and two Explorer Scout Units.

As District President, John will act as an ambassador for Scouting locally, helping to raise its profile, celebrate the achievements of young people and volunteers, and strengthen connections between the District and the communities it serves.
The role will see John support and attend events across the District, meet young people and volunteers, and help champion the positive impact Scouting has across the East Riding.

“Our District President is someone who can champion what our young people and volunteers achieve, help us strengthen our links with the wider community and be an ambassador for Scouting across the area. John’s longstanding connection with the East Riding makes him ideally placed to help us do that.
“Scouting locally is about so much more than our weekly meetings. Our young people are camping, learning new skills, taking part in adventurous activities, supporting their communities and gaining experiences that can stay with them for life.
“We want John to see that first-hand. We look forward to welcoming him to our Groups, activities and events, introducing him to our young people and volunteers, and working with him to continue raising the profile of Scouting across Beverley, Hornsea and the surrounding villages.”

“Scouting makes an important contribution to our local communities, giving young people opportunities to develop confidence, learn new skills, experience adventure and make a positive difference to the places in which they live.
“I am particularly looking forward to meeting the young people and volunteers who make Scouting happen across the District, visiting our Groups and seeing some of their activities first-hand.
“Our volunteers give an enormous amount of their time to create these opportunities for young people, and I hope that as District President I can help champion their work, celebrate the achievements of our young people and support Scouting in continuing to thrive across Beverley, Hornsea and the surrounding communities.”
Beverley & Hornsea District Scouts provides opportunities for young people from the age of four upwards, supported by a large team of volunteers who give their time to deliver Scouting within their local communities.
John’s appointment as District President provides another important link between Scouting and the wider East Riding community, while giving the District a prominent local ambassador who can help celebrate its successes and advocate for the opportunities Scouting provides.
The District looks forward to working with John and welcoming him to Scouting events and activities throughout his time as President.
