You look like a role model

You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent.  Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand.

Volunteering at Scouts is really flexible – it’s up to you what you do and how often you do it. Here are some of the ways you can get involved.

Work directly with young people

If you’re a people-person who loves sharing knowledge and getting stuck in, there are loads of opportunities to use your skills within the sections. Can you make a great cuppa, drive a minibus, organise an event, or inspire a nervous young person to try something new? Working with other volunteers, you’ll plan and deliver challenging, relevant and rewarding activities for young people. If you’re happy to help once a week but don’t have much time for planning, you can download a pre-planned programme of activities from the Scouts website. Or if you’re a super busy person but still want to be involved, you can join a Parent’s Rota or take part as an occasional helper.

Make things happen behind the scenes

If you’re an organisational wizard who likes to get stuff done (but doesn’t fancy running activities), we’ve lots of behind the scene tasks too. Our Trustee Boards help groups with raising money, arranging events, getting publicity, recruiting young people and adults, maintaining buildings, and general admin. We also have practical things that we’d love your help with, like cutting the grass or painting a meeting place. All of this doesn’t involve direct contact with our young people but is just as important to us.

Run our teams

If you’re a motivator who can get the best out of people, then we need someone like you to manage and support our volunteer teams. We want to make sure they’re happy, that they understand their role, and that they have what they need to continue being amazing leaders. On joining the team, we’ll provide you with great training opportunities, including an accredited course – always a nice addition to anyone’s CV.

No matter what role you pick, you’ll be fully trained and supported along the way. We care deeply about our volunteers, and want your time in Scouts to be as valuable for you as it is for our young people. Join us today.
