1st Beverley Bring Joy to Local Residents

1st Beverley Beavers and Cubs Spread Festive Cheer at Lindum House
Beavers and Cubs from 1st Beverley (St Nicholas) Scout Group have been spreading festive cheer in their local community through a series of activities linked to their Community Badge.
At a recent meeting, the young people took part in a creative and reflective craft session. They talked about residents at Lindum House and discussed how spending time with others in the community can make a positive difference. The Beavers and Cubs then made handmade Christmas cards for the residents, ahead of a planned visit later in the term. The evening finished with a festive craft activity, with the young people creating Christmas tree decorations to take home.
Following this, the Beavers and Cubs visited Lindum House, where they shared the joy of Christmas by singing a selection of familiar festive songs and carols. The visit created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with smiles and laughter shared between the young people and residents.
Tom, one of the Group Lead Volunteers, said:
“We asked the Beavers what they would like to do this term and one of their ideas was to sing carols at a local residential home, so we built this into a bigger project. I was really surprised by how engaged the young people were and how much they enjoyed meeting people more than 80 years older than them. It was a joy to see both the young people and the residents having such a positive time, and it reminds us that it’s the little things we do that can make a world of difference. I’m incredibly proud of our young people and the difference they can make, both now and in the future.”
This project has been a great example of young people shaping their programme, building empathy, and taking action in their community — all key parts of the Scouts experience.
