Brandesburton Scout Group have done it again – and this time, they’ve smashed their own record! This November, the group donated over 130 shoeboxes to the Samaritan’s Purse Appeal, filled with toys, games, clothes, and toiletries for children in developing countries.

Over the years, the group has sent more than 900 shoeboxes, but this year’s record-breaking effort shows just how much the community can achieve when everyone pitches in.

Group Lead Volunteer Karen Coulthard said:
"A huge thank you to everyone from Brandsburton and nearby villages – Leven, Kippsca, Tickton, Hornsea and North Frodingham – who helped make this possible. Special thanks to Maurice Newsagents for being our collection point, and to the talented crafters whose knitted, crocheted and sewn items brought extra love to the boxes. The Knitting Group from North Frodingham Community Centre and the Crafty Shedders of Hornsea really went above and beyond!"

For Scouts, activities like the shoebox appeal are about more than just giving gifts – they put Scout values into action. By helping children less fortunate than themselves, Scouts demonstrate kindness, compassion, and respect for others, while learning the importance of community and service. Working together to fill the shoeboxes also helps young people develop teamwork, responsibility, and creativity – all core parts of the Scouting experience.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity and creativity, these shoeboxes are now ready to bring smiles and warmth to children across the world, showing the real impact that a small act of kindness can have. 🌍💖
