Update From Our Youth Leads
Our Youth Leads roles are to promote Youth Shaped Scouting as well as promoting the completion and awarding of top awards across Beverley and Hornsea District. We’re passionate about ensuring that young people take the lead in shaping their Scouting journey, doing the activities they love and making their voices heard. However, we’re not just here for the young people - we are also here to support you, our amazing adult volunteers in delivering a youth-led programme.
One of the best parts of our role is visiting Scout groups, where we get to see young people and volunteers in action. This is what makes our role so rewarding. Recently, we’ve had the opportunity to present YouShape and Top Awards, as well as celebrating the achievements of our dedicated Young People.
If you have an event or section night you would like us to attend or any awards you would like us to give out please email dyl@bandhscouts.org.uk.
14-24 Team
Young Leaders At The Heart Of Our Teams!
Young Leaders are Explorers who volunteer alongside adult volunteers in a Squirrel Drey, Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. They're a valuable asset to any leadership team and play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.
The District Young Leader Team is led by Mick Suggit, and Mick is a vital part of the team ensuring Young Leaders understand their role and feel welcomed into the section they are volunteering with. Across the District, we are working hard to place Young Leaders in every section where possible so if you’d like a young leader or would like another young leader, please email yl@bandhscouts.org.uk.
Programme
Fencing
We have an exciting new opportunity for groups across Beverley and Hornsea! Fencing! We now have a dedicated team who can deliver either foam or plastic fencing to groups across the District. Read more about how to arrange this here.

We’re looking for volunteers and young people to share what they love about Scouting. Whether it’s the adventures, friendships, or life skills you’ve gained, we want to hear from you! Your quotes will help inspire others to join and be part of something amazing.
It’s quick and easy to take part—just fill out this Google Form or drop us an email. You can even stay anonymous if you prefer. Leaders, we’d also love to hear from young people in your groups! Please share the form with them, or let us know if we can reach out via OSM. Help us spread the word and show why Scouting is so special! If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch.

Woodmansey Scout Group
Woodmansey Scout Group has only been open for a few months, and we're already witnessing the positive difference it's making in the community. We're excited to have launched a joint Squirrels/Beavers section as well as a Cubs section, both of which are thriving. Our waiting list continues to grow, and we're eager to welcome even more young people into the group. We were excited to invest our first group of young people at the end of March and are looking forward to seeing them grow, develop valuable skills, and make new friends.

1st Hornsea Scout Group
Over the last few weeks, 1st Hornsea Scout Group have been undergoing lots of work to renovate and tidy up the Scout Hut. We are currently in the process of having insulation boards fitted in the main room and have recently had a new front door and fire exits replaced. Plans for the near future are to have the main hall painted once the boards have been fitted and finished, a new kitchen fitted plus shower facilities installed, this will make the Scout Hut much more useable and welcoming. We are also in the process of securing the lease for the land which will enable us to have fencing placed around the land to make it a much more safe and secure area for all of those using the hut. Having this work done will give the young people a much nicer place to meet and the possibility of us being able to hire out the hut to other groups. On Saturday 8th March the volunteers had a workday at the hut to tidy up the stores, check kit and clean out the office and resource room. The volunteers that attended worked hard and lots was done, luckily the weather was on our side too so was able to enjoy a lovely BBQ for lunch also, although there are more workdays planned for 2025 to continue with this the hut is now looking much tidier and more useable.
